REQUIRED LISTENING: a musician's personal notes about favorite artists.
The Soul Sessions.
The Soul Sessions, the initial release from Joss Stone, could be the launch pad for something special. In a
music business that spits up new artists at an alarming rate, having REAL soul puts an identifiable stamp on an artist
(which tends to keep them from being discarded so quickly). Instead of taking the glorified exotic dancer route chosen
by so many young female artists, Joss Stone is instead pushing her musical talent and fiery vocal style. "Fell in love
with a boy" (a White Stripes cover), "Victim Of A Foolish Heart," "Super Duper Love" and
"The Chokin' Kind" are stand out tracks on an exceptional CD. Joss gives herself totally to each song and
even at such a young age, developing her own unique vocal style. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. Cheers
to Joss for having the fortitude to rely on her own (substantial) talent.
p.s. What a lucky break for us when she found those old soul songs (while going in to record her first release)...
