REQUIRED LISTENING: a musician's personal notes about favorite artists.

Take Your Shoes Off.
Robert Cray's enormous talent is on display in this 1999 release. Among the finest of the triple threats (guitarist, singer AND songwriter), Robert Cray understands the feel of classic Memphis Soul and different Blues styles. The diversity found in this collection makes it a particular favorite. "It's All Gone," "All The Way," and "Pardon" have deep soul conviction, while "What About Me," "Won't You Give Him (One More Chance)" and "Tollin' Bells" find Robert Cray charting new territory. I remember when I first heard this CD, I was moved by how hard he must have worked on it. It remains one of my favorites of the past decade. I was glad to hear that it garnered a Grammy (his fifth) for Best Contemporary Blues album (1999, 42nd annual Grammy® Awards). Good stuff.
